Технологията за водородният автомобил я има отдавна, проблемът е в добиването на водород. Все още не е открит достатъчно ефективен и екологичен начин. Освен това проблем е (т.е. скъпо) съхраняването и транспортирането му. Неслучайно в момента батериите се наложиха при екологичните автомобили, въпреки сравнително бавното им зареждане (засега). Но до 10-15 години, и този проблем ще е решен. Докато изграждането на нормална мрежа от станции за водород, както и "фабрики" за производството му, ще отнеме същото това време + много пари.
